Male Responsibility Program for Boys and "Creating Healthy Attitudes Together" (CHAT) Program for Girls: Youth participate in health fairs, group discussions (on topics including peer pressure, violence/gang activity, conflict resolution, drugs/alcohol, sex, pregnancy, STDs, and more), and learn to build self-esteem, identity and acceptance.
Summer Camp: Summer camp is provided in June and July for youth ages 5-15. Activities include reading, athletics, field trips, and arts and crafts. Summer camp provides a safe, encouraging environment for kids during out-of-school time.
Athletics Programs: Intramural sports, including basketball, baseball, football and wrestling are provided for youth agest 4-20.
Diversity Programs: Through the Youth Development Center's various programs, youth increase in knowledge, acceptance, and understanding of different cultures.
Employment Opportunities Program: Youth ages 14-20 are provided opportunities to participate in career discussions, receive help with filling out job applications, instruction on writing resumes, participation in annual job fairs, and receive help preparing for interviews.
Volunteer Opportunities Program: Youth participate in days of service, such as National Youth Service Day, and participate in service projects throughout the year. Some past projects include serving food at homeless shelters, tutoring children, organize food drives, and serving meals to seniors.
Tutoring and Reading Program: Children at the Kansas City library are provided tutoring and homework assistance after school.
Post-Secondary Education Awareness Program: Youth ages 5-20 receive help and support applying for colleges and training programs. Participants enjoy field trips, such as college fairs and speaker sessions. Youth also receive information about available scholarships and assistance programs.
More than 870 youth participated in the last school year, and the numbers are increasing!
