Mental illness affects one in five adults in the United States and does not discriminate based on ethnicity, economics, age or gender. It does, however, tend to disproportionately affect people that may already be at risk due to factors such as low income, minority ethnic background and advanced age.
The goal of the Don Bosco Counseling Center is to offer mental health services to everyone - regardless of their ability to pay. Through strategic alliances with other agencies, Don Bosco is able to support a wide variety of services. Staffed by Truman Medical Center Behavioral Health Network, the Counseling Center offers individual, group and family counseling for people suffering from abusive situations, substance abuse, trauma and other emotional hardships.
In addition, thanks to the funding and support provided by LINC Caring Communities, social workers are placed at four community-based sites. These workers offer a wide array of services, from behavior modification to support services to helping families find resources in the community.
Don Bosco and its network of partners ensures that everyone, with or without insurance, has access to mental health services.
